Bizarre festival of La Tomatina, Spain

To put it bluntly, the world is a pretty strange place. Here is the first part of a list of strange and weird festivals around the world.

1. El Colacho, Castrillo de Murcia, Spain

I know what you are thinking: WTF is that yellow suited man doing jumping over those adorable babies? Well, I can explain…

In fact, no I can’t explain. I looked it up on Wkipedia and all I could make out was something about original sin and Catholic devils, but I couldn’t take in much of the information because I was distracted by the photos of a man in a yellow jumpsuit and Adidas sneakers jumping over a mattress of adorable babies.

2. Kanamara Matsuri, Japan

Just do a search online for the information. Then do a Google image search. One word: bizarre. They seem to be taking the advice of Tom Cruise in Magnolia literally.

3. San Fermin  (Running of the Bulls), Pamplona, Spain

Popular with drunk, thuggish, dumb Australians, everybody knows about this festival in Pamplona, but that does not diminish it’s weirdness. Lots of people getting drunk and running through the beautiful old town of Pamplona being chased by angry bulls. Stupid. I decided to include an image of the Plaza del Castillo instead of the actual bull running, because it is my blog and I can do what I want, and I don’t want a photo of idiotic tourists anywhere on my pages.

This is a Hindu festival, celebrated in places where Hindu’s live. I don’t really know why they stick things through their bodies. What’s wrong with praying? Or having a little dance, a little drink of feni, maybe singing some badly out of tune Bollywood songs and then fallng asleep, like how they celebrate festivals in Goa? This looks far too painful to be worth whatever they get out of it, in my opnion. Do a Google image search. It’s not for the squeamish.

Lots of naked men and tomatoes? It’s like an Italian nonna’s dream! This looks my kind of festival – no babies being put in threatening situations, no bulls or people being harmed and no huge, pink pricks being paraded down the street. I might give this a try one day!
